Flanagan Cornell Strategic Planning

Flanagan Cornell Unit 74 Communities,

Over the past school year, the district has been working diligently on the creation of a five-year strategic plan that formalizes and focuses district efforts on specific goal areas to increase student learning.   In order to accomplish this, a “Strategic Planning Committee” was formed by the Superintendent with consultation and recommendation by the Board of Education. This committee included board members, teachers, and various parents from our two communities.  This committee was purposefully organized to include a variety of perspectives and roles from throughout the District and was invited to the initial phase of the planning process.

This first meeting was organized and led by Mr. Ralph Grimm, an external consultant, whose vast experience assisting districts with strategic planning throughout the state supplied a strong foundation to begin this important work.  Over the course of five sessions and a total of 16 hours, the committee engaged in reflective and challenging discussions regarding the District’s strengths, opportunities, and areas of improvement. Through these discussions, the board and administration identified priority areas for focus during the next several years.  In no particular order, these areas were identified as follows:

  • Retention and Recruitment of High Quality Personnel

  • Curriculum

  • Buildings and Facilities

  • District Finance

Committee break-out sessions were completed for each of these focus areas to define a goal and associated action steps for accomplishing it.

The strategic plan will continue to be a “living” document that guides the district into the future while changing as new priorities arise.  The district would like to thank all the teachers, parents, grandparents, and business owners from the Flanagan and Cornell communities who assisted in the creation of this plan.  Your Falcon Pride runs deep!
